Become a KSO Course Developer/Instructor

Kool Skool Online is looking for Course Developers who can author new courses. All you need to do is to submit a course proposal via email to our Registrar, Dr. Philip Wakefield. Before completing your application, you are invited to view the KSO Course Developer's and Instructor's Guide written by Dr. Wakefield to help you understand our course development platform. If your course proposal is accepted, we'll expect you to write a two to sixteen topic/week course complete with outline, description, lesson plan, lessons and supporting materials within 90 days. Information relating to Qualifications, Terms and Remuneration is detailed below.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Course Developer for Kool Skool Online. Kool Skool Online is an online community education site with a goal of delivering online courses to eager students written by qualified individuals. All of our courses and course interactions occur online. We offer both self-directed courses in which the student only obtains the material of the course and works through that material on their own with little or no instructor support, and instructor-based courses in which students get the added benefit of instructor input and assessment.

Our courses range in length/duration from two-topic/two-week courses to sixteen-topic/sixteen-week courses. Each topic/week should include a minimum of 500 words of instructional text and include supplemental readings, assignments, discussions, projects, quizzes or other complementary activites for each topic/week. We offer an easy to use platform (KSO Moodle) for creating and/or uploading your lessons including space for graphics and links.

Should a Course Developer wish to recommend books, CDs, videos, etc., we can help them to find and link to online suppliers (such as Amazon.ca) that will help the Course Developer generate earnings from the sales of these items. We can also help Course Developers to set up an online store front through PayPal.com for selling relevant course packs that they may have assembled for their course(s). Please note that as a Course Developer, you will be responsible for shipping any complementary materials not handled by another online supplier. Also, please warn your students in your Course Description that they must have purchased these materials prior to commencing your course(s) and indicate approximately how long it might take them to receive those materials.

Kool Skool Online does some advertising and promotion for the general Kool Skool Online web site, but Course Developers are strongly encouraged to advertise and promote their own courses.

QUALIFICATIONS
Kool Skool Online Course Developers must have the credentials and experience to write authoritatively about the course they propose. We're looking for developers with one or more of the following qualifications:

  • Author or producer of a book, CD or video.
  • Members of relevant associations, societies or other organizations.
  • Writers who have previously developed and taught online courses.
  • Offline teaching or tutoring experience.
  • Expertise, professional experience or life experience in a particular field.
  • Academic or other credentials.

TERMS
If your application is accepted to develop a course, you will have 90 days to complete the course development including writing the course description, the lesson plan, each topic/lesson, a list of links, and to identify any required or recommended resources. If you feel that you may need an extension you will be able to ask our Registrar as long as you can provide a completion date for the course development.

You will be asked to write an introduction and an overview of the course which would include a description, objectives of the course and a short course developer biography. As you upload or build your lessons, our system will create a syllabus of your course for you.

Initally, you will also be expected to be the course instructor for the course. After three months, you may choose to withdraw from instructing the course and recommend another qualified instructor to Kool Skool Online (written approval from Kool Skool Online is required) or completely withdraw the course from our system. As the Course Developer, you will receive all royalty payments for instruction (see below). Should you decide to recommend another instructor you will be solely responsible for negotiating payment to that instructor or you may choose to turn over all royalty payments to that person by writing to Kool Skool Online confirming your intent.

After one year of inactivity for a course, Kool Skool Online will assume exclusive rights to all course materials should that course material remain on our server. You can submit a removal request through our Site Administrator.

REMUNERATION
Note: All Kool Skool Online prices, fees and royalties are stated, charged or paid in U.S. Dollars.

Kool Skool Online Courses are priced from $24.95 for a self-directed two-topic/two-week course and $29.95 for an instructor-based two-topic/two-week course. Please note that these are the minimum prices that can be charged for self-directed or instructor-based courses. Course Developers and Instructors may increase these rates at their discretion based upon the amount or nature of the course material, or the degree of instructor involvement. Consult our Registrar if you have any questions.

In return for developing a Kool Skool Online course, you will receive a Course Author Royalty of 60% per student registered. Kool Skool Online takes responsibility for collecting all tuition fees from the students, but collecting fees for complementary or supplementary resources is the sole responsibility of the Course Instructor or Developer. You are reminded that Kool Skool Online only pays royalties to the Course Developer unless the Course Developer reassigns those royalties to another instructor or the course is abandoned after one year of inactivity.

Processing for the payment of royalties occurs monthly on or around the 15th of each month. After processing, payments are made through PayPal to the Course Developer's PayPal account.
